Must-See sites
Taipei City
Today, Taipei is regarded as the center of Taiwan’s politics and economy. While rich in places of historic interest, fine cuisine, and cultural museums, the soul of the city is truly what separates it from other international cities. Even in this fast-paced metropolis, you can feel the hospitality of the people. Taipei’s nightlife is remarkably exciting, as there are many different types of activities in all parts of the city which include dozens of night markets, pubs, and hot springs - all considered part of Taipei’s nightlife style.
Taipei Martyr's Shrine
Modeled after the Forbidden City’s Hall of Supreme Harmony in Beijing to symbolize brave spirits of martyrs, the shrine houses tablets inscribed with names of those who died during revolutionary times. However, perhaps the most interesting aspect of the shrine is the ceremonial changing of the honor guard.
National Palace Museum
In Taipei, this is the one place visitors must see. Considered one of the four great international museums of human culture (alongside the Louvre in Paris, The Met in New York, and The British Museum), the National Palace Museum houses the best artifacts of Chinese civilization. The museum concentrates 8000 years worth of artifacts painstakingly collected and carefully moved from China for protection from invaders over China’s history. The depth of the collection is so vast, displays are rotated once every three months. It is believed it would take over 10 years to see the entirety.
Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall
Erected to commemorate the “father of Taiwan” president Chiang Kai-Shek, the hall’s architecture brings the symbols of Taiwan’s flag to life. Placed within the hall are the many important documents and pictures from the founding era, through which we can learn about the roots of Taiwanese democracy through the years to the modern era, relations with China, and on an international basis.
Freedom Square
Housing the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Freedom Square remains a powerful symbol for public assembly, democratic progress, and free speech. Even today, outspoken citizens still flock to the square to make political statements.
Taipei 101
At a height of 1,671feet (1/3 mile), Taipei 101 was the world’s tallest skyscraper (surpassed by Dubai’s Burj Khalifa) until 2010. Architecturally, the building is a remarkable feat of modern engineering blended with traditional symbolism, towering over the rest of the city. This ultra-prestigious center houses 5 floors of shops, business clubs, art galleries, restaurants, and many of Taiwan’s financial giants. An indoor observatory is available on the 89th floor, while the 91st floor features an outdoor observatory.
Taiwan High Speed Rail
Developed with a blend of Japanese and European technology, the Taiwan High Speed Rail (HSR) runs the length of western Taiwan in less than half the time of conventional rail. With soundproofed cars and a carbon footprint of just 15% of conventional transportation, this high tech accomplishment is a modern wonder.
Super Value Tours includes VIP arrangements in Business Class for all guests (along with free snacks and drinks) to ensure your comfort. With more space, 5 music channel stations to choose from, AC outlets, and seats which rotate 180 degrees, guests can easily chat and unwind.
Kenting National Park
Kenting is an unspoiled tropical playground home to countless rare and exotic plant species. The work of thousands of years erosion have crafted spectacular scenery along the coast with a special ecology of coexistence between land and sea.
Kenting Main Street
Every night when the sun sets, this small Kenting Road transforms into a bustling, lively thoroughfare. Like a city that never sleeps, the lights from the streets decorate Kenting with a rainbow of colors while countless seaside shops, each with its own personality, along with all types of vendors and bars come to life. There are local delicacies you must try, including fragrant southeastern cuisines you will never forget while you fully enjoy the beach atmosphere.
Kenting Oluanpi
If you’d like to get a feel for Taiwan during the era of Japanese colonization, Oluanpi lighthouse is one of the best places to go. As Taiwan’s most southern lighthouse, it shines that farthest and is known as “The light of east Asia.”
Tainan
To the casual observer, Tainan may seem like just another big city. In fact, Tainan was one of the first cities in Taiwan, the first capital, and the center of politics and economy for about 300 years. Dig deeper beyond the skin and discover that from this history, an ancient atmosphere has emerged with the most abundant collection of historical buildings & national treasures in all of Taiwan.
Anping Kaitai Matsu Temple
As the earliest temple devoted to Matsu (patron saint for southern-eastern Chinese) in Taiwan, historians have nicknamed Anping “the Door of Taiwan.” With architecture based on an ancient style, the feel of the temple is magnificent, impressive, and solemn. Inside, the Matsu statue is shaped from a rare type of thousand-year old wood: padauk from China. Carved with delicate strokes, the statue carries a kind but solemn expression.
Anping Fort
Taiwan’s oldest fortress was established by the Dutch as a base for international trade during the Qing dynasty almost 400 years ago. Today, Fort Zeelandia is one of only two places in Taiwan officially listed as a historical site dating back from this period. With 17th century Dutch colonial design, the Fort is a curiously misplaced glimpse into Taiwan’s rich and diverse history.
Zeelandia Museum
A lavish tax building from the 1600s, this building was remodeled into a museum in 2009 to give visitors a glimpse of 17th century Zeelandia and its business activities. The exhibits reveal the history of Anping (Tainan city) & Taiwan, development of southern Taiwanese culture, and the lifestyle and culture of the original capital.
CheCheng
In ancient times, Checheng was a hunting ground for the Thao aborigines. Starting from the period of Japanese colonization (late 19th century) of Taiwan, the area began developing and these days, has become a center of preservation for aboriginal culture. Super Value Tours includes special arrangements for guests to tour the Checheng chateaus, Wood Museum, and The Grove. For lunch, enjoy Checheng's special wooden boxed lunch; enjoy your meal in the natural environment with subtle breezes and experience the unity of history and nature in this small town.
CheCheng Wood Museum
Originally a wood factory, the facilities have been converted into a wood museum standing in the center of the CheCheng community. The museum depicts scenes of early local wood production techniques. Inside the exhibit, guests can try DIY wood furniture, such as seats, bookshelves, etc. Wood sculptures are also on display along with videos teaching the history of the museum reconstruction.
The Grove
The Grove is a fascinating plaza dedicated to the environmental preservation of Checheng village. Featuring a fusion between past and future and a focus on "loving and preservation," the area is constructed using environmentally friendly materials salvaged from old buildings finished with new eco-friendly paints. A small set of exhibits and DIY classes are available here to learn about the abundant history, culture, and sights of Checheng village.
Sun Moon Lake
Hidden in the mountains, the island's biggest fresh water lake is also Taiwan's most beautiful. The surface of the lake is separated by Lalu Island - the southern border is round like the sun, the western border shaped like a crescent moon, giving the lake its name: Sun Moon Lake. The beauty of the lake comes from the mountains and waters coming together, as if one continual slope where the whims of light and winds can change the appearance of the lake at each moment. To properly enjoy this magical scene, Super Value Tours includes arrangements with the three best ways to sightsee: 1) When first arriving at Sun Moon Lake, take a lakeside bus tour. 2) Enjoy a bird's eye view of the lake from Syuentzang Temple. 3) A private charter cruise on the lake is included. Special arrangements are also included to stay overnight on the lakeside. After checking in, escape from the busy city, relax, and enjoy the view of the lake directly from your hotel room. Early next morning after breakfast, choose if you would like to take a stroll along the lake-side walkway to take in the morning air as a thin mist blankets the barely awakened lake. As the sun rises, envelop your senses by watching the sun's rays melt away the mist, allowing the gorgeous view of the lake to fully emerge.
Shenghsing Station
Miaoli county, where Shengshing Station is located, centers on its rich Hakkanese heritage. The Hakka people, a prominent minority of ethnic Chinese, can be very loosely described as the ‘nomads' of Chinese people. They are known for their rich culture of foods, language, and tradition of hard-work (Dr. Sun Yat Sen and Deng Xiaoping are a few examples of promiment Hakka people). We include an afternoon at Shengshing station to enjoy a traditional Hakkanese lunch along with a unique Leicha (pounded sesame tea) making experience.
